It seems pretty difficult to explain your recording by magnetic arguments, since they are a type of force that falls away as 1/r^3 which means it takes an extremely powerful source to make any recording at distances of more than a hundred meters. These observations can be made, but they usually involve huge perturbations of the entire Earth's magnetic field as it interacts with radiation or from the core itself.
