    Hello All,
I would like to share the good news for those who have been looking =
for an inexpensive seismograph to purchase. John Cole of Pearland, =
Texas, went to a machinist with his own design for a MIni-Mini Lehman =
and had him make up six or eight of the little fellows. John and I live =
only ten miles apart and John presented one to me for test purposes. I =
think the results have been outstanding. I run mine with a 16 second =
period and you can look at my (FC2) recording of the 6.3, 6/11/00, =
Antarctic Ridge Earthquake posted on the PSN event list to see the =
results. John also presented one to Don Wheeler who lives near Monroe, =
Louisiana. His Mini-Mini Lehman recordings are posted as DW2. I think =
John is mechanically gifted and he has experimented a great deal with =
the Lehman. He is not in this for a profit but only to recover some of =
the money used in developing this little machine and for the =
satisfaction of knowing he has developed something that could be used in =
the class room. He feels strongly that he has a design that could =
readily be used by amateur seismologists and by teachers in the public =
schools and I agree with John. We both say this with the qualification =
that the teacher should not be a complete "klutz." He/she should have a =
little bit of mechanical aptitude. I am attaching a picture of the =
little fellow that has the footprint of less than two sheets of typing =
paper. Go to my web site SEISMOLOGY IN FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, USA at: =
http://freeweb.pdq.net/fxc/ for more information and an additional =
picture. You will find it has some unique features such as a guitar =
tuner screw that does away with the akward turnbuckle.
