I drilled three1/4 inch holes through the carpet, making sure that I did not catch the fibers in the drill. I then injected a little epoxy into the holes and inserted 1/4 inch screws. Onto this I mounted a plate with nuts above and below. It seems to be a very stable platform. I hope that the screws will be removable by use of a wrench when necessary (don't use too much epoxy-perhaps I should have greased the screws first).
