At this point I don't think anyone is using DOS to view the event files. As I said before both EMON and SDR are DOS programs, so they will continue to produce 8.3 format event files. One does need to be careful in what characters are used for the name. As far as I know, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, all OSs (except DOS) will except numbers, upper/lower case A-Z and one or more periods in the name.
