Hi Larry,

Thanks for the feedback.  I agree that it may be impossible to meet this
target cost: $150 for hardware/Radio Shack parts and labor provided by
the teacher or $75 for parts and labor to retail for $150.  In any case, it
will be interesting to see what the students come up with and in the end
they will all learn:  that there is a field of study called Seismology, 
that earthquakes
can be recorded all around the globe, that most of what we know about
the Earth's interior comes from seismic waves, and that it's not very easy 
to build
an operating seismograph system that can detect teleseisms.  If a group
does meet this price goal, all the better.
