This is a very nice short-period seismometer, probably about 1 Hz natural
frequency, still available from Kinemetrics. Read about it at
http://www.kinemetrics.com/ss1.html. It (or maybe even three) would be an
excellent addition to any seismic system.

They are called Ranger Seismometers because they were originally developed
for the Ranger missions to the moon.  Before we put people on the moon, we
put these seismometers (in a triaxial configuration) there to look for
"moonquakes". They can be used in any axis by adjusting the screw on top.
