How far you can run an rs232 cable is dependant on the speed that you 
need to run the link (amongst others too).  GPS receivers tend to be run 
at 4800 or 9600 baud.  This is fairly modest so I would be optimistic 
that it would work over 100 feet, even without an extender.  Worth a try.
