Hi there,

       If you look around you can buy just the barrel and plunger - there is 
no need to cut up a micrometer. Many micrometers just screw together anyway.
       It is not really very difficult to make a conical hole in the centre 
of a bolt with a centre drill and stick in a ball bearing.
