Subject: AD7142 ?

Hi All,

Has anyone looked at the Analog Devices AD7142 Capacitance to Digital
Converter? I wonder if it might be useful for amateur seismometers.

They sell an evaluation board that has all the electronics to give both I2C
and USB data outputs.

Specs seem quite good.
With a typical balanced-capacitance sensor, +/- 1mm spacing, at a 50Hz
sample rate, they claim specs equivalent to:

0.17 nm /degC temp drift
0.3nm / sqrt-Hz noise
2.1 nm RMS noise
14 nm p-p noise
Resolution (24bit) much better than the noise.

Any thoughts on why this wouldn't make a good starting point?

Regards,
Brett
