Aside from the engineering and model making supply stores which are referenced
by others, suitable copper plate is widely available.

Any plumber will have offcuts which they will likely give you, as will many
roofing companies. There are small businesses here which travel around
installing copper guttering which they roll out on site.

Surplus hot water cylinders end up at the house wreckers here. Lots of copper
for $NZ50.

There is likely a scrap metal dealer in your area who will part with suitable
scraps of copper for a smile.
