Yes.... you are correct...the rod would twist sideways (rub), rather than
roll
as a crossed rod pivot should.

All is not lost however with the aluminum; it does have another pair of
holes
that can accomodate a rod through it.

Yes....(ha), I also put up yet another photo (bottom of the web page) of a
more
correct crossed rod pivot and denoted my error.

Meredith,

It would be interesting to test this arrangement of rods.  I think
that due to the angles,
the pivot point will need to rub rather than roll.  If that's the
case there will be much
greater friction.
