Chris, I do NOT want to appear argumentative or afraid of using anything.  I 
do not like the idea of exposed 100v or 240v AC, in your case, loose inside 
the vault.  I can conceive a safety factor as-well-as possible ac hum.

THAT is why I am considering the DC approach.
