Wouldn't  P be expected to be larger for this magnitude of a quake and the 
nearness to the epicenter?

The two M6.5 earthquakes of 1/5/2008 on the Queen
Charlotte Islands Fault were well recorded by
AS-1 stations all across the US.  I've posted
