It probably makes more sense to use the definition of nautical mile 
to convert directly from degrees to nautical miles.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautical_mile:
A nautical mile "corresponds approximately to one 
minute of 
latitude along any 
meridian. "

Since there are 60 minutes per degree,
104*60 = 6240 nm
140*60 = 8400 nm
