BOINC are the same people who deal with like SETI and LHC collider
I have participated in all these kind of things in the past
and find it all entertaining.
If you dedicate your machine to crunching numbers you may
shorten the life of your numerical processor which after years
may manifest itself in producing erroneous calculation results
but the main CPU will still be OK.

I would not dedicate 100% of my valuable machine time
to only doing BOINC stuff since the people who
are benefitting are most likely Richer than myself.
Just enough to understand and contribute something is
better than nothing at all.

The nastiest people in the USA are those striving for the top.

Not those already there or those who do not wish to compete.

Just a note to understand who we may be dealing with
other then simply scientists.

Understand you may be sacrificing your hardware for their causes.

Hopefully they are all normatively good causes.
