  I too am at a loss.  Question: could his be misread and was a ( ' ) 
instead of an ( i ) = P's?  I'm also wondering IF a quake of a sufficiently 
WIDE distance might generate two or more P waves for a regional event? 
Your message says "well ahead."  How much ahead?
