You have compatibility modes to use.

If you want some 32 bit program to run like
the old windows it should be installed into
the 32 bit program files area. Then you
select properties and make it compatible
with WINXPsp2 or whatever.

I understand 32 bit programs upon a 64 bit system
runs the same except only half the 64 bit word
is used. This means whatever memory you think
you may have, you only half that much when
running 32 bit stuff on a 64 bit system.

This new thing which the other poster has
pointed you to is new to myself and I got to
look at that too, but I think it may only affect
64 bit programming.

I have only very few 64 bit programs to run on this 64 bit system.
Most all my stuff is 32 bits.

I have never before had the same kind of troubles
of what you speak.

Possibly you should consider the purchase of
the retail version of Windows instead of
keeping with the OEM version which
comes on the purchased machine.

No matter what anyone tells you,
I believe OEM stuff to be cripple ware.

Some OEM stuff is good if you never connect to the internet.
It comes preactivated,
It never again asks you to reactivate so long
as you stay off the internet.

geoff

Thank you Brett and Geoffrey,
When I installed WinSDR in the new Windows 7 PC, I used the default location
for the data files. This AM I took Geoffrey's suggestion and changed the
location for events and data folders to my Documents folder. Now I can see
the data file. But I guess I have lost my previous events and data.
Gary

Gary,

Dave and I have both seen something similar with our Windows 7. It
possibly relates to the data redirection done by Windows 7 User
Account Control. Actually, it's a pretty good file system, but can
really be confusing to people who in the past have managed their own
files and file locations.

Now, no data is to be stored in program-file directories--only programs.

See:
http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/developers/archive/2009/08/04/user-acco
unt-control-data-redirection.aspx

which explains what's probably going on.

Brett
