300 miles ? That’s too far away.

Possibly a sonic weapon tuned to the wavelength
of the birds cochlea.
Something a Farmer might use to chase away the birds ?

I looked at seismic records in the Arkansas area
and saw nothing of a seismic nature.
If it were booms they were not strong enough to
be recorded on seismographs.

It is not a usual thing to see so many birds buy the farm
all at once.

I think possibility of a kid playing with a new sonic toy
the birds cant deal with.

Evolution is so slow and industrial revolution is so fast.

Animals of all kinds have not evolved to deal with
side effects of technology.
