If you're moving to a 3rd floor apartment, I suppose you're moving to
a fairly large town, so regardless of the floor, a geophone will
probably pick up much noise during daytime?

I live in Norway and my geophones clearly picked up the P wave of the
recent 7.2 quake in Pakistan, by the way.  But I mostly see local
quakes around 1, rarely anything exciting...
