If you are going to display the principals
Id say buy an entire prebuilt system for only a fraction of what you say
so they can see how it all works.

If you want seismic results buy a NEW HS1,Laptop,
Purchase Larrys Amplifier,Converter,Software
And spend the rest properly situating everything.

If you live in the USA, because, dealing with customs
can be very very exasperating.

The HS1 at 0.75 HZ should last a lifetime with proper care.
But they are not Cheap to purchase and The used ones
will (LIKELY) have some kind of defect.
They cant be easily worked on outside the factory.

You can always build your own from scratch
with that kind of dough. But not recommended unless
you are capable (Skilled Craftsman) of doing so with needed things.

I am simply too poor and badly located
to build such a thing from Scratch.

I say a homebuilt rig will never be good as a pro
model built in a factory of skilled workers
and well educated engineers.

The last time I checked a HS1-1, 0.75 HZ
was like $3000 all by itself.
"OUCH!"

Just a thought,
geoff

Hi

I have a budget of $2K to $4K to purchase a seismometer or seismometers to record teleseismic events and for academic use. Of the
seismometers currently available to purchase, either commercially or homebuilt, which would you recommend..and why? We are now
using an AS-1 clone, the EQ-1 bought through Wards. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
