Hi,

The reports of change to the earth axis pose a question. If we presume the
change is caused by a shift of mass about the axis, in this case a bulge
near Japan, then the shift should have occurred world wide in a very short
time frame due to centrifugal effects. Has anyone seen the effect on a
vertical record? The reason I ask is that if I integrate my record, just
over one minute after the P arrival I have an abrupt vertical offset lasting
for 2 seconds which then recedes smoothly over a couple hours. When I saw
it I assumed a friction error but I have now looked at some other records
and don't see comparable affects. Also the fact that it is over a minute
after shaking begins would seem to have given stiction time to have
released.
