Hi Geoff,

Thank you for the complement. I am quite new at this, building my first
vertical almost a year ago. I am learning much from reading the mail here
at PSN and other sources such as IRIS.

Regarding the free period oscillation of my AS-1 type sensor, I'm only up t=
o
1.85 seconds.
I've read somewhere if the distance from mast spring attachment point and
the booms hing point is *decreased* it would *increase* the free period.
Mine is set to about 4 inches. It's my understanding that if the distance i=
s
reduced too much, the free running boom will become unstable. I am not sure
what that means operationally. I believe the manufacturer of the AS-1
advertises only a 1.5 second run.

Burying it might be interesting, but I would have a difficult time trying t=
o
make any adjustment changes such as dampening or balancing. My biggest issu=
e
here is a constant cycle of noise that comes with local winds as well as
ocean gales just off our coast.
