Hello Bob and PSN,

It was not as easy for me as for you.

I was finally able to get one computer to see the other but not vice versa.
The Win7 machine will see the Win XP Pro machine like it is
a part of of Win7 Itself. But the Win XP machine will not
acknowledge the existence of the Win7 machine.

Here is what I did:
1. No internet connected
2. manually Configure both machines ipv4 under network adapter properties as follows
A IP 192.168.001.100 machine number one
    B. IP 192.168.001.101 machine number two
    C. under the OS make both machines with Identical Network names (123456789)
    D. MASK: 255.255.255.000 Both Machines
    E. GATEWAY: 192.168.001.001 Both Machines
    F. DNS: 192.168.001.001 Both Machines
    G. ROUTER CONNECTION: Both Machines
    H. Turn off all firewalls: Both Machines
    I. DESIGNATE FOLDERS TO BE SHARED WITH FULL FREEDOMS: BOTH machines
    J. ADMINISTRATIVE USERS: Both machines
    k. FULL DUPLEX 100Mbps both adapters at both machines
3. turn off router firewall by using msie from either machine
4. insure router set for auto everything
5. shut down both machines and router
6. power up router first
7. power up desktop WIN7 ULtimate
8. power up laptop WINXP PRO
9. Go into NETWORK under WIN7 (not network and sharing center )
10.wait possibly a minute you should magically see what you are looking for
11. nothing I do will get the laptop to see the desktop, it only sees the router itself
12. before going back to the internet you got to reset all the sharing and security settings

it is obvious win7 and winxp networking are not functioning identically I think I need to reconfigure ipv4 to different values
to get the laptop to see the desktop.

If I can get both machines' to see each other in identical ways and configure the security
of everything to keep hackers out only then will I let the Winsdr server try to work.
this is due to the fact that the laptop must be online 24/7 to do its job.
I understand it to be almost impossible to keep a determined hacker out.

The next step is to try and get my station online for people to look at the seismic data in real time.

I never thought it would be so much trouble to network windows, its just not yet user friendly.

I'm happy with my current amplifier but its only good for regional events.
The narrow bandwidth gives good noise rejection and high sensitivity.
I will build a second amplifier/filter dedicated to teleseismic events using a second channel.
but that all is a pipe dream at the moment.
The final system seems to be a single sensor and two separate amplifiers/filters/channels
then I expect to see well most events even in this noisy place.
Regards,
geoff

Hi Geoff -

I have two PCs (WinXP), and a MAC (Snow Leopard - 10.6.7) linked together with ethernet cables, and a Linksys router. I used the
basic Microsoft networking protocol for all computers. I also have three printers linked to the various computers, and available
for use from the other computers. I use one of the PCs for WinSDR and seismology, and use the MAC for email and surfing, while the
other PC is in my wife's office.
