Geoffrey,

 

I noted you used the identical computer names for both machines.  You should
have a different name on each computer.  The name translates to the IP
address.  You should have the same workgroup name in both as this is the
domain for seeing the other machines.  I think in Windows 7 it is called
something different like homegroup.    The DHCP server in the Windows 7
machine would interfere and crash my router so you must insure that is off.
I don't have Windows 7 but my daughter brings her laptop and it works fine
on my network now that we made minor changes.  My other daughter brings an
Apple and that also works so at times I have Win98, Win XP, Win7 and Apple
and Linux on at the same time.  I use the WPA/PSK security also.
