Thanks to Bob McClure I was able to access usgs seismometer data from
the Fredericksburg, VA site about 50 miles from my location

Here is 40 minutes of data from a large quake about 64 degrees distance

Magnitude 7.2 - FOX ISLANDS, ALEUTIAN ISLANDS, ALASKA
2011 June 24 03:09:40 UTC
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqinthenews/2011/usc0004f5m/

QM-4.5LV geophone system data near Washington, DC(~80kb):

USGS seismometer near Fredericksburg, VA data files:
ftp://ftp.iris.washington.edu/pub/userdata/David_Saum/CBN_2011_Aleutian_7_3/
I am not sure how long my data will remain on the IRIS server

Bob McClure's long period filter is built into AmaSeis and when I
apply it to my data using the default parameters (4.5/0.5/16) it does
a nice job in scaling my data to look more like relative amplitudes
in the Fredericksburg data.

Cheers,

Dave
