This might seem wrong but if you have enough ram make
a downloads ramdisk folder and possibly uploads
then be sure to move the results to the harddrive
after doing the downloads pr uploads.
You should find an improvement in transfer rates
if you have cable.

Nothing is faster than ramdisk but you need
like 6 or more Gig of ram for large stuff
keep it like 256MB if you have 4Gig.

If you put your MSIE temp folder there
there is also an improvement in
MSIE performance.

But be careful, some systems or ramdisks
might be unhappy if the folders are not present
on startup in the ramdisk when the
system is first turned on.
Make sure you have an image file of
your disk saved in WIN7 on a separate drive
before trying the MSIE thing. Or nothing important to loose
on your system. I once tried this and had to reinstall
windows entirely. But lately with Win7 64 its
ok.

There are free ramdisk software for individual use
you just got to be courageous enough to try them
since most companies seem truthful you
generally don't need to worry about viruses or spy ware.

Or so it seems to me.

I see most people are paranoid about trying free software
and I understand why if you do important things
on your OS.
