Usually these things happen like 50 statute miles high.
Back in about 1978/79 my wife and I were at the
Velda Rose Drive in Theater Apache Junction looking south not long after
sundown and witnessed a spectacular exploding
Bolide which sent a cone of debris scattered over
a width East/West simultaneously of maybe 30 degrees at the horizon
straight south of us. The pieces were visible right to the
ground level. Formed a nice little ice cream cone
in the sky with the ice cream hitting the Earth.
We never heard a thing.
I have seen a couple others since then,
One exploding straight overhead, Like a Firework, did not
hear a thing. Are you sure its not a military thing
from China Lake ? The Navy has a fighter school there
or so I understand.
