Hi Thomas, my 2C worth on the topic. We have been running the PSN network
for twenty-two years now and I have never had or heard of anybody from the
USGS or other government agency telling us to erase files. We have however
had them come to us and ask if we recorded an event at a specific time and
date. If you check our archives on Larry's site in Redwood City you might
just find the "missing" event files for the events discussed below in the
links. I looked at these link's and I think the issue reported in the
YouTube link is a network issue and not a cover up. I'm guessing a router
table was changed and an error was made and later fixed.

Why I wrote this note was to tell you about my all-time favorite theorist
and we have had a few over the years knock on the PSN door. There was this
guy that came to a PSN meeting in 1992 and handed out a drawing of the
nuke's being tested in the secret tunnels drilled along the San Andres Fault
Zone. His theory was the government was secretly testing atomic devices
which created all the earthquakes. Plate tectonics had nothing to do with
it. We closed our meeting after that and they were by invitation only. When
you think about it, there are so many school, PSN and small networks out in
the wild that it would be almost impossible to hide an event these days. I
do remember recently hearing about a small town that had loud banging going
on at night. The USGS sent in a seismologist with portable systems to locate
the source which she/he did. Which demonstrates to me that if there are a
few blind spots between networks were there is no instrumentation very small
events can go undetected. When I lived in San Jose over the Cross San Jose
Fault occasionally two PSN stations in the south end of the valley would
record micro events but the USGS system up in the hills above them on
bedrock would not. It was later described in white papers as the need for
seismology where the people live.

BTW: If you live in the SF bay area, the USGS Open House will be the weekend
of May 19th - 20th. Check the USGS site for details.

Subject: "censored" earthquake????

I was bidding my time while waiting for my wife this morning when I stumbled
onto this subject on several sites ... some are the same info:

There is a funny taste in my mouth over this; as if this was a made-up
thing. There is a small "quake" on my records around 14:11 of this date
here in the Midwest. Nothing I even processed. My log shows that a strong
low was crossing into Pennsylvania at that time; that might explain some of
the noise they claim. I have seen data links go down before. And there was
some sun spot activity around that time.
