Subject: Help with new seismograph

We were gifted a Slinky seismograph and we are in the process of getting it=
setup. I do have a couple of questions
=20

In Amaseis, can you clear the helicorder data?
We have a regular data glitch at 30 sec interval. Any ideas about where to=
 start to correct=20

 Hi Doug,=20
=20
Sorry, but your picasaweb reference comes back as 'not found'. I sugges=
t that you check it, please ?
To delete a drumplot of recent data, you look for the last data file an=
d delete that.
=20
The Boise slinky setup file shows a system which is seriously underdamp=
ed. I suggest that you use=20
several FIBRE / FIBREGLASS (old circuitboard?) washers between the damping =
magnet and the mild=20
steel clamp nuts. OR, CAN YOU BUY BRASS NUTS ? This could significantly inc=
rease both the=20
damping and the voltage output. Use a copper tube. Try offsetting this so t=
hat one side is closer to the=20
magnet ? Also use fibre washers for securing the sensor magnets, particular=
ly if you are using steel nuts.
I will be writing to Boise. It looks as if there are several desirable =
improvements to this instrument,=20
including electronically extending the period to 15 seconds to pick up the =
Rayleigh Surface waves. Even=20
if the accuracy is a bit iffy, being able to see the Rayleigh waves on the =
drumplot makes picking out
earthquakes VERY much easier. =20
The most immediate improvement would be getting the damping roughly cor=
rect.=20

There is commonly a glitch in Amaseis when changing from one hour line =
to another if the digital=20
filters are used, but certainly not at 30 second intervals. Can you connec=
t up the system, but run it=20
without any power on it ? And see if you still get glitches ? Switch a long=
wave radio on, tune it in=20
between stations and listen for clicks etc at 30 second intervals ?
=20
    Hope that this helps
