All your points are good. But the amateur has one big problem that 
messes with data and that is domestic noise. Sometimes my data is good 
and other times not; so a direct immediate feed of data is not wise. I 
know what I am getting but others might not understand.  I personally 
edit and resist publishing events because of what comes in here from 
quarry activity, local microquakes, local digging equipment, even 
garbage trucks passing by and  etc. A lot could be learned and 
invigorate the amatuer by looking at the advances coming out of the 
USarray data. Winquake is a tool. In ten years it has shown the ability 
to be modified to the needs of the users.
