Hi all,

Our power was restored this evening, after 5 days. We have a fiber-optic
phone whose battery lasts only 8 hours after power failure. We did not own
a cell phone until yesterday, so we were out of touch with everybody. It is
nice not to have to endure the cold and dark any more.

Life for most is not yet back to normal. There is not enough gasoline,
and the local banks and ATMs were closed. Merchants open would not take
credit cards, either. Over 400,000 customers still lack power. See
http://www.lipower.org/stormcenter/outages/outagemap.html

After storm Irene, I had 23 locust trees (90-foot weeds) removed this
year from our half acre lot, and left 5 standing in the rear of the lot.
One of them uprooted and toppled into a neighboring locust, and dropped a
branch on the roof of my bedroom. I cannot tell if there is any damage, but
I have not detected a leaky roof as yet.
