I went back and found the link to the information.

correct. 

 

I can see these techniques being useful in Geoff's 3 dimensional seismometer
in that strict calibration in multiple degrees of freedom would not be
required.  Scaling and noise reduction could fall in the interface of the
model with the sensed response.
