Wonderful.

This lets me wonder if it might be possible to create
something like a CCD chip placed upon a pedestal
upon which a pendulum of light would fall upon.
Then you need to sense the on /off condition of each and
every pixel which would have an (X,Y) address.
Then you only need to record which (X,Y) pixel be illuminated
to tell where the Laser or other tiny light source
attached to the pendulum is pointed.

Does any of this make any sense to anyone ?

I think only a commercial manufacturer or university
could take this idea and play with it ???

You have but a single pendulum of light.
Some way to dampen it.
With a light source hitting the
sensor in complete darkness
producing a digital output
with a (N,S) result for each and every
rectangular coordinate over time.
You can resolve anything you want through math
later.

????

geoff
