I have had poor results using switch mode power supplies. I started
using them since they were easily available from dead PCs. But it is
next to impossible to reduce their noise to acceptable levels.

Always bypass rails at each op amp with 0.1 uF cap and placing a few 100
to 1000 uF electrolytics in strategic places can help too.

Building linear power supplies is easy, especially if you can find a few
junk power transformers. (Many thrift shops just throw out electronics
that don't work.) The data sheets for the LM317 and LM337 have all the
information you need.

Download "Op Amp Applications" by Walt Jung from the Analog Devices
website. It will answer your questions.

Regards,

Chuck Burch
