I have seen a thing made here in New Zealand which hangs an object beneath
an energised pole piece. the abject had a piece of what llooked like ferrite
in it, and I assumed that the pole piece was was energised with a high
frequency, and further that the suspension relied on hysteresis to provide
the stable position which was about 25mm below the energised pole piece. The
suspended object was a globe weighing a couple of hundred grams.

I tried to find the manufacturers, or any reference on the web, but no luck.
