Hi David,

The end is still open.  What made you think otherwise?  News accounts
frequently get this wrong, and say that the Richter scale runs 
from 0 to 10.  Actually very small earthquakes have negative magnitudes.
The largest recorded so far is the 9.5 Chile earthquake in 1960.
