Sean-Thomas,   thank you for the info on the Beldsol wire source.

Years ago, long before I retired, I worked as a tech, and had a small
bottle of paint remover in my took kit.  When working with fine wire,
enamelled covered, the end could be dipped in the bottle, and wiped
clean after a wait of a few minutes ... very easy, very convenient,
and less hazardous than physical scraping the wire.

It was even easier years earlier, when we dealt with SSC DSC, SCC and DCC
insulation, but those are terms I have not heard or seen in many years!
